Im running a Line 6 DL4 into a Bogner alchemist effects loop (and yes I know the bogner has delay already on it...but that has nothing to do with this.)

when i engage the delay, the tone becomes "squished" and dark sounding.
Is this because of the parallel effects loop on the amp.. or is this a common problem with the DL4?

If so should I change pedals? if so to which one? Thanks

Yes, it's because of the parallel effects loop. Adjust the effects wetness.

I would probably blame the effects loop. Does it have an input and output level? You may be causing the pedal to clip. My DL4 doesn't do that at all.
