Has anyone caught themselves using forum talk IRL? Today at dinner my dad said something and I said "Basically, that" in response to it. He caught that I was using forum talk since he frequents some forums as well. So, Pit, have any of you accidentally used forum talk outside of forums?

Well, yes, generally. As in this example:

dude, that sucks, get this instead

basically, that

_______________________________________________________

As you can see, it works well on a forum, not so much IRL.

I don't really use forum talk in real life. I tend to say "lolololololollo" on rare occasions.

When I pull an immature prank on a friend and say "lolololo" it sounds like "Lowlowlowlowlow".

ones I use:

lol
lmao
rofl
gtfo
stfu

Most of the times, they are sounded out like words. For example, stfu becomes stuh-foo.

I would probably hate you in real life.

I've used "I am disappoint", "wat", "fail" and a few other things on occasion.

It gets annoying if someone uses that frequently though.

FAIL.

Please don't. I mean, I'm not exactly happy about all the others, but NO ONE should say fail in real life. It's already annoying enough on the internet.

I mean, you can say fail if normal context actually calls for it, because sometimes you have to actually use- nevermind, you all know what I mean.

Hopefully.

PSA

I believe he's talking about how you tend to say things in a forum that make more sense than they would in real life, not chat-speak or memes.

I say stuff like that sometimes, but I can't think of anything in particular right now.

It's better emphasis and less dickheadish when you scream "FAIL" at someone, rather than "You suck hard ass" at them.
A more polite, yet more damaging insult?!
PREPOSTEROUS!
Yet, fail delivers.
