Well alot of americans are sick and more can get sick, each infection increasing the chances of it mutating. Unless you're a huge blubbering rhubarb smelling idiot you'll probably realize it's not good to have half the country staying home ill.

edit: Sorry, forgot this was UG. Should've just assumed you're all half-witted gits.

I haven't heard that much about Swine Flu lately. One of my classmates got it a few weeks ago and she was gone for a week, but I'm pretty sure she's fine now.

I'm also pretty sure that both my brother and my sister had it a few months ago (we didn't get it confirmed but it was definitely the flu, and it was definitely pretty bad), but I didn't catch it for some reason even though I was around them the whole time.

The issue here isn't about it's fatality rate. It's how infectious it is and the increased chance that it could mutate into something far more fatal.

I agree with that.

Completly blow out of porportion, the regular flu is much worse and has already infected way more people than the swine flu has.

This crap happens every year now, first we where all going to die of bird flu, we see where that went, now where all going to die of the swine flu, a mild flu in comparason. Whats next?

Worst part is that people are actually telling stories of when they themselves and lots of people around them got ill from while still repeating the mantra that "it's not a big deal lol". Apparently if not everyone is dead then it's "just the flu" nevermind that a country has to be run by healthy people oh no it's perfectly normal that hundreds of thousands get sick so quickly.

I was just saying that it hasn't really affected my area all that much at the moment, so there's not a lot of news about it. Of course, this is not the case everywhere.

Because the healthcare industry owns alot of shares in the mainstream media. If people are scared shitless that Swine Flu is the second coming of The Black Plague, the industry's gonna sell a ton of vaccines that aren't very effective against a disease that isn't very dangerous

And let's not forget that the flu increases the chances of other complications. Swine flu has a slightly higher death rate than seasonal flu. Thing is, most people have some form of immunity to seasonal flu. Less immunity means more people catch it, leading to more people dying with swine flu as an underlying cause. Factor in that we haven't hit winter yet, when flu really picks up.

In my opinion, is it being overblown out of proportion? Possibly. However, the bigger problem is that it's being underestimated by those who cannot see anything beyond numbers of people dying from it.

To all those who say "I had it, not too bad", well no shit, it's just a flu. The problem is when it lowers your immune system, opening the door for other things to kill you. I had a friend whose dad died because he had a combination of swine flu and pneumonia.

ITS JUST A FLU.

its not the ebola virus or something if anything your the moron for thinking this a legitimate trheat to the US or the world.

36,000 people in the US die of regular flu.

since the 8 months this thing had impacted the population only 1000 have died from the swine flu(according to the media), wheres the national emergency on car crashes or smoking cigaretes or heart atacks this is all bullshit.

its the ****ing flu of course its going to be widespread, is this something totally completely ****ing new to our civilization, that we have to go into panick mode.

if anything the government itself is making things worse by making people all panicky.

based on what, where the hell do you get your information that makes you think this is deadlier than a regular flu. FOX news. CNN. bah

even those dumbass grassroots doctors they put on the air will tell you the death rate is actually half of the regular seosonal flues.

I'm fairly certain that the main reason he declared it a National Emergency is so that the vaccine can be distributed more easily now.
