I'm new to theory, I'm taking lessons on justinguitar.com

I just learned the Minor Penatonic Scale in the key of A.

So my question is, is:

This Shape:

is the penatonic scale, and the key changes as i change the root note? correct?

the shape remains unnefected?

If i started it on the third fret of the E string it would be Minor Penatonic in the key of G?

Do all scales follow these guide lines.

I'm a little confused by the question, but you move the whole shape up, not just the root. So if you played that shape with your forefinger on the G note, then it'd be G minor pentatonic. All scales follow those guidelines as long as you don't change the string the root is on.
If music was the food of love I'd be a fat romantic slob.
Yes - but I would recommend learning your scales in terms of notes, steps and intervals as well as the patterns they make on the neck. Understanding how they are constructed makes it much easier to use them fully later on.
That pattern is just one pattern out of five for the penatonic scale. This pattern, also called the first position, would be in G minor penatonic if played on the third fret of the E string.

You should learn all five positions......they inter-connect all the way up and down the neck.
okay thanks all!

+1

its not "the Am pentatonic scale"

rather it's simply one place on the fretboard where you can find the notes of the Am pentatonic scale - don't fall into the trap of thinking that the shape alone is "the scale", it's just one aspect of it.
