Keeley Compressor

+1 ... but not just the regular one... get the 4 knob version for added tone shaping power

Also... Electro Harmonix Black Finger Compressor. I personally like it lots.

These guys seem to hate boss.

Just saying

The BYOC is really nice. There are different designs of compressors. Some more noticeable than others. An optical compressor you may not notice as much as say a ross design. Figure out what you want it to do and how much you want to spend first.

Not compared to the Boss CS-2

Visual Sound Comp66 might be worth a try. $100 and the reviews seem decent. If not then God bless that Musician's Friend return policy

I personally don't have any experience with one but I've heard that the EHX Soul Preacher is suppose to be a very good pedal. Its worth checking out.

The MXR supercompressor is pretty damn good!!

^^yea i've owned 2 dyna comps

sold it and instantly regretted it... so i rebought it...

solid pedal, good compression, can get some cool overdrive out of it (if that's what you want)

I'd suggest is over the super comp.

Yeah I know that you can use it as a "boost" as well.

I'm more interested in the compression however.

I like a compressor that has sustain in it. Does the MXR Dyna Comp sound great?

Thinking about choosing between Boss and MXR.

The MXR Supercomp 3 knob is better than the 2 knob Mxr Dyna IMO.

I only like a touch of compression on my sound, and only on my cleans. I've been considering the Marshall ED-1, simply because of the emphasis control that allows you to add the effect to a specific range of your sound. For example, compress the lower tones but not the higher ones (and vice-versa).

Just another option to consider.

if you've narrowed it down to just boss or mxr, go mxr. that is, the dyna-comp. for my $, no stompbox compressor beats keeley. his comp put him on the map, but i prefer the original 2-knob version... just my taste, maybe i'm tricking myself, but it seems more natural to me, though the 4-knob version does, of course, give you more control, and unless i'm mistaken, a larger range within each pot.

behind keeley, i say dyna-comp, but it gets pretty controversial after that. pigtronics is great, but i say that as word of mouth. the only product of theirs i've personally used is the echolution. again, unless i'm mistaken, pigtronics is quite expensive.

unless you have VERY SERIOUS intentions of modding it, stay away from the boss CS3... you're doing yourself no favors putting that crap on your board, and for the money, you might as well just buy the keeley comp.
