So I've got a cheap Strat copy and as a beginner with guitar electronics and repair, I was wondering what upgrades to do to it. I was thinking of going with the David Gilmour black Strat look, so:

Black Pickguard
New pickups and pots
Maple Neck/fretboard.

Is there anything else and are there any factors I need to take into consideration when doing any of these upgrades?

Thanks

You'll find whisky very different, but try it and you'll grow into it, soon you and whisky are one, but still two, lovers dancing across a frozen lake under moonlight, wrapped in honey and warmth.

Sums up whisky perfectly

make sure the neck fits and the scale length fits your guitar, and makesure that the pickguard will fit unless you dont mind making a few modifications
My Rig:
American Standard Telecaster
Fender Starcaster
Sp. Edition Jack Daniels Strat (Modded)
Vox AC15CC1

Stuff I've Built:
Telecaster Deluxe
Telecaster Junior
Pedalboard (from a shelf )

If it were mine i'd change the nut, tuners, and bridge as well.
Make sure you take your time and dont get frustrated if you mess up.

No I'm not Jesus. I would aspire to be though. I think under circumstances he would let you pay less if you needed to.
