Unless you already have your dream rig, chances are you're nickel and diming for your dream rig. What are you saving for, both now and long-term?

I'm saving for the following, ultimately. I do have a decent job, so this isn't a pipe dream:

- Diezel Herbert
- Mills Afterburner
- Monster Pro 3500
- Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro
- Ibanez Tube Screamer
- ISP G-String Rackmount
- Gibson Explorer
- Parker Nitefly Mojo

I'll start with the smaller stuff, like the ISP and Tubescreamer. I'll get the Mills cabinet before the head because there's no use in running a Diezel head through a Peavey cab (No Offense to Peavey). I hear Diezels are very susceptable to dirty power, so thats where the Monster PC comes in. It would be nice if Diezel stopped being tightwads and included a footswitch with the Herbert. I guess $4500 isn't a high enough pricetag to justify such a freebie for them.

I'm not jumping on the Diezel bandwagon just cuz everyone else has (or wants) one. I like the amp's features, it sounds great, and has a hell of a warranty. If I find one with features like it and with just as good of a tonal spectrum for cheaper, I'll change my mind.

I have a couple of the production models but I want that peppermint finish in green and white.

This ain't bad though.

I'd really like one (two?) of these too.

honestly, I am quite satisfied with what I have right now, i have solid guitars, a great amp, a great pedalboard, a good wireless system, i can get some decent recordings (or so i think)...
I really love the tones I get right now, I'm GASing for a vox ac15, but only because the one I tried before I bought my traynor amp had beautiful cleans... Other than that, maybe a few guitars (epiphone casino, fender thinline telecaster, maybe a gibson firebird) but i'm quite satisfied with what I have =)

oh nevermind, my flanger pedal is gay, i want a better one, but only because it's a digitech turbo flange, it's not that great and sucks my tone, i might go for an EHX electric mistress or an ibanez fl9, if I change it, but that's quite it. maybe a noise gate if my wireless system gets too noisy, since people in my crowd seem to think it is... we'll see =)

I don't like coming up with a dream rig. I have such varied tonal tastes that I'd take me forever to figure the entire thing out anyway.

I guess generally though:

For guitars, HSS/SSS/(possibly)HH Strat, SS/HS/HH/SH Tele, Gibson Firebird V, PRS Custom 22/24 (either way), and some form of LP (preferably LP Custom in alpine white)

For amps, crunchy British (Marshall-y), clean British (Vox-y), clean American (Fender-y), mid-gain American (lighter Mesa-y)

For pedals, just a whole mess of pretty much everything.

For toys, full wireless system, a tie rack full of straps, e-bow......

Right now, I'm really just saving up for a few pedals and some new pickups. I don't really want any new guitars or amps right now. But here's the junk I hope to have eventually:

-either an Ibanez DE-7 or a Boss DD-3
-either a Dunlop Classic Crybaby or a Dunlop Original Crybaby. I actually used to have a classic, but I sold it at a time when I was in dire need of money. Now I wish I still had it. Oh well, I'll try to get it back eventually when I have the money.
-a tremolo pedal of some sort. I have no idea whatsoever as to what brand or model of tremolo pedal. When the time comes, I'll probably just go with the cheapest thing I can find, but we'll see.
-MXR Micro Amp
-maybe a volume pedal of some sort. We will see if I want one later. I'm still debating. But I have been looking at the Ernie Ball VP Passive Volume JR. and the Dunlop GCB-80 High Gain Volume Pedal.
-Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB black for the bridge pickup position of my electric guitar. I might eventually put in a new neck pickup, too, but I have no idea what kind yet. I really want a new bridge pickup first, then I'll worry later about the neck.

I am hoping to get my delay and wah pedals within the next few weeks because I am getting payed some big money in the next few weeks and I will use that to buy for sure a delay pedal and maybe a wah pedal afterwards. Then, I will probably ask for new pickups for Christmas and maybe one more pedal. Then, I will probably have to wait a few more months to save up for the other pedals and hopefully by my next birthday (which is in May), I will have all of the stuff I just listed above.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, my gear fund (almost $2k) has been nearly completely depleted so I've got to start saving again, which isn't going to be as easy this time. I've got $300 left and that's saved for my Bi-Comp that should be ready in a month or two.

Basically, what I'm planning in the next few months is to trade my DeVille for a SF Deluxe Reverb, get the Bi-Comp and maybe send the DR into Andy Fuchs to get modded. If I don't get it modded by him, I'll just Blackface it and swap out the 6V6s for 6L6s for more headroom. I wanna swap the pups on all my guitars as well, I'll probably start with my LP and I was thinking either SD pickups if I can get the money or maybe some WCRs if I can't scrounge together the extra $100. I also want to sell the TS808 reissue I got when I sold my original, it doesn't sound near as good. I might replace it with an Analogman OD9/808 Silver. I also want to sell my DD-3 and pick up a better digital unit. I also want to pickup a new volume pedal cause the Morley sucks tone like a mofo.

I'm also strongly considering selling one of my Gibsons and all of my pedals to get a nice boutique amp like a Bruno UG30 or XiTS Sadie. I just don't know if I can bring myself to part with them since I've bonded with both so much. This situation isn't all that likely to be honest.

My rig will probably end up like this.

LP Standard w/ SD or WCR pickups
Modded GCB-95
Bi-Comp
TS808 variant
Zendrive 2
DD-3 or other digital delay
Modded Deluxe Reverb

If I hadn't lost my new rig fund, it would have ended up like this.

Les Paul w/ SD pickups
RMC3
Bi-Comp
Bogner Ecstacy w/ an Eventide Time Factor in loop
E-peen:
Rhodes Gemini
Fryette Ultra Lead
Peavey 6505
THD Flexi 50

Gibson R0 Prototype
EBMM JP13 Rosewood
Fender CS Mary Kaye

I now have agreat amp and guitar, so once I get money, my priorities are- (in chronological order)

1. Build pedalboard (reverb, envelope filter, phaser is all I really need. Maybe a cheap delay if I can find one. Multiple delays ftw.)
2. Buy a proper pedal board
3. Buy a used strat, mod it, new pups, etc
4. Dunno. After that I'm pretty well set.

-Gibson LP VM
-Silvertone Kentucky Blue
-MXR CC Delay
-Ibanez TS-9

I'm a high school student so I can't set my expectations too high for the moment.

For now, I'm working towards:

Line 6 Flextone III Plus
ESP MH/M series guitar with Seymour Duncan JB and '59 pickups

I'll be totally satisfied with that....for now .

Line 6 Vetta or Axe-FX
Soldano SLO

A real Gibson SG or Les Paul, not my Epiphone knock-off.
An ACTUAL pedalboard and zillions of pedals
Fender 1996 Floyd Rose Standard Stratocaster

My Guitar is already perfect in almost every way - it would be nice to have a set of Bareknuckle cold sweat pups though - my rig would be perfect if everything else in it (bar the guitar) at the moment was gone, and it also included:
1 TC Electronics Nova System
1 Bad Cat Wildcat 40 1x12"
total cost of that:
around £2000 ($3200)
#31
My realistic idea:

My guitar now (Ibanez S470) - For standard tuning and for whammy abuse.
Schechter Hellraiser c-1 or a LTD MH-1000 for heavy down tuning.
Peavy 6505 112 combo - getting at Christmas
Pedal board - Delay, reverb, maybe A tube screamer for solos.
#32
Tone-wise, my rig is sounding pretty nice right now, so I'm happy. Next up is probably a new guitar, maybe an LP, I regret selling mine. In the future I'd love to try out a Wolfgang or MM, they seem like great little axes.

As far as pedals go I still need a compressor, a tu-2, and perhaps a digital delay for longer delays. I use my AD9 to thicken up solos and for reverb mostly, and man does it do that well. I strongly recommend an analog delay for anyone who wants to put a serious board together.

2001 Fender MIM Stratocaster
1987 Fender F-210 Acoustic

Currently saving for a Telecaster in Butterscotch/Blonde , or MAYBE a nice sunburst. I'm going to save money, and sell some stuff, and hopefully I'll be able to afford one in a few months.

After that, it'll be a single channel vintage-y amp. Probably a Fender or a Fender clone.

The guitar itself: I'd like a nicer neck, because it currently has an Allparts neck with the Fender logos just lacquered on; although it isn't awful, it has enough problems with it that to buy a new, legit fender neck would probably be just about as expensive to have my current neck fixed up. It's warped, has fret issues, action/string height issues and a crappy plastic nut. All of these problems are minor in and of themselves, but together they make my playing experience that bit less satisfying. I'd also like new neck and middle pickups which are stacked humbuckers so I can get rid of that hum when I'm playing at higher gain, but I don't know if I'd be able to get that classic sound out of them if I replace them - I might be better off getting a Decimator or something...

For my rig: first off, all my gear is pretty much sprawled all over the floor, so I should build me a pedalboard sometime (that probably won't be all that expensive in reality, and it'd give me something to do in the summer hols which are coming up). I play many different styles of music, but the things common to all are pretty standard effects which I haven't gotten around to getting because I was saving for my actual guitar: stuff like delay (both analogue and digital - they both have their goods and bads), chorus, wah, reverb, etc. I also need a tuner - I use my bros one at the moment and need to get one of my own. Once I get into group situations, I'm gonna need a new amp (my current one is similar in size and wattage to an Epiphone Valve Jr., although it has one 6L6 and one 12AX7. It basically has no headroom because of it's low wattage, so I might be better off getting a new amp sooner rather than later), and I'll probably go for a pretty standard combo, not sure what brand yet though; something like a Marshall JCM800 or a Mesa Boogie Mark IV or V, they both look very nice, but I haven't done much research, nor do I have the cash :\ After all that, I'll start worrying about specific effects like phasers, etc.

stay away from the voodoo labs/digital music corp. GCX!!! bane of my existance! there's an obvious lag, and it'll pop often. do yourself a favor and just save up for a bradshaw. i thought i'd save a few bucks going the GCX route... couldn't regret it more.

also, while i'm sure you'll enjoy the hell outa' that mills cab, i'm getting great results with myVH4 through a 16ohm peavey jsx 4x12 reloaded with x-pattern v30's and 75w's. pretty good construction, doesn't resonate bass freqs like many "heavy" cabs (i.e. mesa oversize recto 4x12's) and the XLR outs are a life saver! stock speakers are crap though.

PM me, Yngwi3, or LP CL when you get ur Herbert if you end up going that route... there ain't many of us Diezel users around, and we sometimes like to compare notes.

Deffinately working on my pedals atm.

Need to get a DE Soda Meiser, Volume Pedal, Dime Wah to replace my vox, a Trem pedal (prolly the EHX Pulsar), MXR 10-Band, SHO Clone, FF Clone, Tech 21 Boost RVB to replace my HG, maybe a whammy for shits and giggles, Zcat hold delay for more delays and the hold function looks cool as frick, maybe an old ProCo rat for some more flavour, and probably another OD just to *****.

Afterwards I want a new amp, thinking of some high gain moderny sounding thing as opposed to my VC30, ENGL, Vox AC4 for jamming, maybe a valvetronix too.

As for guitars, i'm liking mine atm, want some floyd rose metally thing, Schecter C1 Id think. Otherwise it's just pickup/hardware uprgades for my strat, tele and jag.

I'm going to be poor.
#39
Well I have my Ampeg SS-140C and Ibanez Destroyer. I plan on getting a Line 6 echopark, ISP Decimator, MXR 6-band EQ, and trying to build a BYOC Optical Compressor. I also want to change the stock pups in the Ibby to Tone Zone/Air Norton, change the speakers in the Ampeg to a pair of Celestion G12K100. I am going to hopefully build a 2x12 cab too, load that with Eminence Wizards.

Of course first and foremost is to find a job
"If you're looking for me,

I'm working my way towards a Peavey JSX 212, then I'm going to setup my Peavey Falcon guitar, which I love the feel of, toss some new pickups in (maybe some Dimarzios).

It'll look like

Peavey Falcon->
Ibanez WD-7
Pink Verb Reverb/overdrive
ED-1 Edward The Compressor

Peavey JSX 212

Eventually, I think I might get a new guitar, either an Ibanez or a Music Man.

EDIT: I'm also going to need a delay. I love delay, I think it's fantastic.
