Just curious, how many of you would or wouldn't donate organs and tissue after you died? Are there any organs/tissues you wouldn't want to donate? And why?

I had a discussion with someone the other day who would donate everything but her eyes for whatever reasons. Personally I'd let them take everything.

In sweden you can get a certain card and then register on a website saying you will/won't donate organs/tissue and specify if there's something you don't want to donate. Do other countries work like that too?

I don't know if we have such a specific system in the US. I doubt it, but hey.

Anyway, I'm a registered organ donar. Hell, why not? I won't need my kidneys when I pop my clogs.
#4
Sure, I can't imagine I'll have much use for them when I've snuffed it.

And I think we can be specific in the UK about what we're donating.

Thing is, I know many drunken medical students, and know that people like them would be hacking away at my corpse if I were to give my body to medical science.

So I'd say everything minus something token, like my ankles, so that I'd never be subjected to hung-over 19 year olds. Foolproof.

I dont need them, someone else does

Fair deal.

Some of it.
Not my kidneys, because they're useless to me, so it's be kind of cruel to whang one into someone who really needs one that works.
Everything else, why not?

Be sure to leave your brain for science after you die, Kensai.

They're the only ones with microscopes powerful enough to find it

On topic, I want to be cremated, so there won't be much left of me anyways

Same for your testicles

You could donate first, then be cremated surely?

well played

well I guess I could... I DO think it would be awesome having my skeleton hanging in some lab

I'm fine with them taking whatever they want. If I can help someone else have a better life after I'm dead that sounds good to me. I'll probably have my body cremated anyway.
#19
Yeah I'd probably go for everything, although there is a bit of illogicality in me that still doesn't want my eyes and genitals being 'used'.

I'm not sure.

I like the idea of donating organs, but I'm not sure that I like the idea of humans being alive.
#21
Ya I will, it's not like I'll need them.
I'm not sure that anyone who wouldn't (without a valid medical reason) should receive them.

I plan to donate it all.

To an extent I wish it was mandatory, but I understand why it's not. Just is very sad to see people die unnecessarily.

In Belgium, it sort of works like that as well. If you register (not through a website, I believe you need to request it to the government) you get a card saying you're an organ donor. When you die, and you have the card on you, people will know you're a registered organ donor.

Whether this card is an electronic card that stores the information of what organs/tissues you wish or don't wish to donate, or whether this information is stored by other means, I don't know.

I guess I'll donate everything except my pancreas because it's fucked.

In Ireland it's not. It's just a card that looks like this:

But all it is is plastic with a strip on the back for your signature and the signature of your next of kin. I'm not sure it is is legally binding but I hope so, I couldn't find any other way of making my wishes known. I keep it in my wallet, so hopefully they'll see it if I die suddenly. I also ticked the box on the back of my driver's license.

NO because reanimation will be possible in the year 3582. Trust me on that one.

I probably will donate my body to science. Better than just having me take up space in the ground, I guess.

sounds bout right.

really though, at least in my class, everyone behaves respectfully to the donors we dissect and if the TAs or technicians see you do/say anything inappropriate you get kicked out of the lab. this even includes taking your cell phone out.

I'm already on the organ donor list and intend to will my body to a local medical school whenever I get round to writing a will so other med students get the same advantages I'm getting from dissections.

No. I will NEVER do that.
This is why:
Imagine there's one guy who's mangled in an accident but could survive but without limbs etc. There are two individuals in such a position arriving at the hospital. One of them is willing to have his organs donated, the other is not. The one willing to donate his organs is going to get worse treatment, so, if he dies, the doctor has a heart to transplant, and doctors love this because if they pull off a successful transplant, then they've made it to the big-time and will be revered. The one not willing will to give transplants will be treated as a normal patient and efforst will be made to preserve his life.
That's how it is in hopsitals etc. as I know first hand from a relative who worked in medicine who told me about how it works.
I'm gunna call all kinds of bull shit on that.
