So, ive been really bored with my music lately. Ive been listening mainly to progressive such as porcupine tree and dream theatre but i wanna shake it up a bit.

Im looking for sorta alternative rock sorta stuff. New stuffs cool but none of the really mainstream stuff you'd hear on a rock radio station. and also when it comes to growling and screaming a bit is ok but too much and it ruins the music for me. Thanks to anyone who recommends me some cool music..

and also could you post genre of band and if possible a good album to start on.

my music! (points to sig)

but seriously, how about some Tool, Dredge, Alice in Chains, Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Devin Townsend or System of a Down?
Saying alternative rock is a bit of a broad term, anything from Yo La Tengo to Brand New can be classed as "alt rock", and they're completely different, both good though.

I'm adding you to my list of most hated UGers.

well DrFuzz, im not really looking for a particular genre. i just figure alternative rock is broad enough to get a decent selection of good music and narrows it down a bit more than just saying any music

RX Bandits!

They're modern, alternative rock with some progressive influences and horns, just what you're looking for, really cool.

Listen to the albums "...And the Battle Begun" and "The Resignation" first.

GO Islanders!

Why just rock?

Look into some other genres, you might find something you like, unless of course your really narrow minded.
Not really alt rock, but Minus the Bear is fucking amazing
