Well, I want to get something like a Line 6 POD, to cut the need for an amp, what with living in a flat, its quite full of hassle.. BUT, I've got no idea how it works/what it is, I just sorta heard that you could play with loads of different stuff through your computer.. Well what would I do? WouldI like plug it in my computer, then plug my guitar in? How would I do that? Would I need to buy new speakers for my computer? It doesn't make any sense Anyone care to enlighten me? Because I don't want to buy it then feel like a retard because I didn't do the right stuff/ have the PC requirements or something..

EDIT: Like this, it looks quite handy, but how would I work it? Like would I need a software already? I want to use it like an amp, but on my computer, if you understand.
For example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXl44H6wvZU He is playing through a Line 6 POD, how is he doing it/is he using software? Like what? I'm a bit of a technophobe

I have a Line 6 POD 2.0

Basically you plug your guitar into the POD, with a normal guitar>Amp lead.
Then you need a wire to plug from the POD into the line-in of your computer.

Like this : http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Stereo-Jack-Plug-1-2M/dp/B00077DC3S

And then you need

When plugged in the guitar comes out of your computer speakers.

Well I already have the little jack thingy in the pic, so I'll just need that thing off Amazon, and that'll be alright. Do I need any software to run it through, and if so, does it come with the POD? Also, I take it the quality of my speakers count? If so, I'll have to upgrade them/Buy better ones..
EDIT: Is thsi the one that you have?

I think you might be better off with a Line 6 Toneport, but thats just because i have one and its awesome. If you have terrible pc speakers I'd save up and get some but if you don't think they are rubbish there is no need

Could be worse. Though from time to time, I would like to shoot them with rocket-propelled chainsaws.

Does it have a line in or "CD in" or something?

Cool. But is it worth it? Like, is it worth getting instead of a new amp?

Are you gigging ,playing with others or just practising at home?

I think you either need to try one out and see if you can get the sounds you want or, decide whether you will ever need an amp; gigging?
