Its a hair band/hair tie. Its used to dampen the strings so that open strings dont' ring out as loud. Mostly people who tap a lot use it.
Breaking stereotypes by playing indie on a metal guitar.

- Crappy Strat Copy (Redecorated, looks snazzy)

So, am i able to buy one for guitar, or is it just a regulear hairband?

Just a regular hairband. However, the thicker ones (with lots of fuzz) work best.

rummaging around in your sister's room is somehow less weird than just buying a hair tie?

Absolutely.

Beat the recession by soldering your strings back together! What's more, the extra metal vibrating back and forth will add to your tone... and what could be more metal than more metal!?!
