I'm going to be getting this drumset, and I figured while I'm getting it, I should get heads to go with it, because from what I've heard, you usually get lower-quality heads with a set when you order it. Does anyone have an experience with these, or have any recommendations of any good, cheaper heads I could get to go with it?

Heads are great i think.

Is that set in stone? I've played Pulse drums once. Once was enough. Not good, man.

Unless you're going do some serious drumming, I wouldn't even worry about the heads. The heads on my drums are 8 or 9 years old, and while they don't sound great, but they get the job done.

I have no experience with Pulse drums, but I've heard bad things.

Ew Pulse drums. Not good.

I'm actually wondering about heads myself.

my brother (a unbelievabel drummer) said pulse kits are poor. and hes never had experience with the heads

How about getting a cheaper kit and then upgrading it with the leftover money?

I bought this kit around 3 years ago, except mine was a slightly higher-end $300 version of the same kit.

And I've never looked back. It definitely was a great kit to learn on. I've played it so much that I actually prefer the crappy kick that came with the kit compared to the ones I test out in guitar center

edit: I think pacific drums have a good reputation too...

Really? Well, thanks for the heads up on the drums, everyone. I was really looking at them because of the price, and because they had such high reviews and ratings on the site. I'll have to look around a bit more....

Edit: What was it you guys didn't like? Could it have just been the heads on the sets, or is there something else?

For the set I'd suggest a Tama though. Sound great and play great.

Don't get pulse. I suggest going with tama or pearl. Also Evans makes good heads. also Aquarian makes decent heads so i'de go with one of those.

What's there sounds good, but it's a shell pack; no pedal, no hardware, no cymbals. I'll have to look at what I can put together, and see how it works out.

The shells are awful. It's like they're made of cardboard or smth. The hardware was kinda flimsy and sorta poorly finished, too. But mainly the shells.

What did it end up sounding like? I had good impressions of Pulse, but I think that was based on a friends kit who someone else TOLD me was a Pulse.... I think it was actually a Ludwig....

While we're on the topic, what would be some cheaper, solid sticks you guys would recommend? I'm probably going to order 3-pairs, or something like that, while I'm on the site.

This, Me and my brother both use evans and we love them. And as for the guitar center part my brother always pisses off the store clerks by negotiating his prices down quite abit.

I get great deals at GC, but it's probably because I know everyone who works in the drum department
