I watched this last night. Freaked the hell out of me, but that's not exactly the point.
For those of you who have seen it, do you understand why Devil/Regan reacted the way it/she did when Karras poured tap water on it/her? He justified his initial thoughts that she was just under a delusion based on her reaction to what she thought was holy water. Later when it becomes obvious to him that she is indeed posessed, the film never explains why she reacted that way.

Why did it/she?

And to all you other people, if you haven't seen it, do you want to?

The demon was obviously fucking with them.

Probably the most logical answer.

I've always wondered this as well. I assumed it was just a plot hole.

Sadly, this is most likely the answer.

Or the demon is scared shitless of god, and preemptively freaked the **** out.

the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. if he thinks the possession is phony, she can continue being possessed.

According to IMDB the reason is
The devil was trying to deceive Father Karras (Jason Miller) into thinking she is not possessed.

The movie didn't bother me. Some parts were gross but nothing scary. It's most likely because I don't believe in demonic possession.

I think white people are better than black people.
While this statement is kinda racist and straightforward, it does have many FACTS to back it up lolz.
