I have a $1300 budget for a new amp. I need something that is preferably tube, so solid state isn't completely ruled out at this point.

The things I have looked at so far:

Peavey Valve King 100W 4x12 (Tube) - $1000
Crate FlexWave Series FW120HS 120W Half-Stack (Solid State) - $500

Those are really the only two I have looked at so far. I would prefer a new amp, as my experiences with used equipment has been, quite bluntly, terrible.

Any opinions welcome!

Without knowing what exactly you want, I will recommend the Roland JC-120.

Sorry, knew I was forgetting something.

I play a heavy distorted metal. Think Killswitch Engage meets Slayer and has a baby with Trivium's Solos.

I also like to do clean stuff to, so a clean channel is a plus. I am planning on building a pedalboard, so a good distortion channel is great, but not required.

And yes, this amp is for gigging.

Isnt there a special think with the Randall heads? You have to install custom modules don't you?

Actually I'm not sure...some of the heads work on their own. I think only the T2/V3 series require modules. Don't quote me on that though.

Jeez, do I even know what I'm talking about?

RM100 and RG50TC don't need modules, I'm quite sure about that!

I think I am going to go with the Randall RM100 (which does actually need modules, from the look of the pictures) and a Randall R412NXT cab.

One question about the mic elimination. I've never heard of that before. From what it seems, the cab eliminates the need of micing with, say, an SM57, and is sort of a line-out with the XLR out?
