Hi Pit, I'm trying to book some shows in some local pubs.
Just me and my guitar, I've never played all alone, always with a band to cover my ass.

So I was wondering, any of you guys played acoustic sets by yourself in pubs? (or any other place..)

Did you play covers, your own songs? did you interact with the audience?

Anyway, share your stories and tips.

just go to a open mic night and do some covers and if you like it and the crowd think your good do some more?

Thats a really good idea. It will give you an idea of what to expect, and also won't disappoint people if you suck it up.

Play some music, and if anyone laughs or boos at you, just pull out your gun and make sure everyone knows who is calling the shots.

I don't know how to play the harmonica, but I guess just having one fixed round your neck makes you cooler, so I might look into that.

The kazoo is designed for idiot children and the almighty Bill Bailey.

Coffee houses as opposed to pubs. People go to pubs to be loud and noisy. You need to go somewhere where people will hush. Unless you don't mind playing through a racket.

+1 to open mic nights.

definatly covers and plenty of classics, pubs fucking love that sh!t. a bit of Neil Young or any folk music, punters will like it.
i would say interaction depends how friendly the audience is, i guess just go along with whatever vibe there is

EDIT: sing alongs are always good too.

I know, and I can't seem to get away from this place either.... not that I want to, of course.

On topic: I haven't done any, though I have done some photo stuff for a couple people who have. They played a few covers but predominately their own stuff.

Play to the lowest common denominator. That being old people, piss-heads and people on drugs. Think of what you would like the hear when your drunk in a bar and base your set around that. Also scope out the clientel in the bar.
