ight so would the blackstar HT-5 Head along with a blackstar 1x12 cab be a good amp to get some good cleans.. then get some heaveir stuff like slipknot/opeth/rammstein ect then lighter stuff like green day and simple plan... i would probally have to run a bad monkey OD into it to get heavier distortion right??? i noticed for this tour opeth's guitarist Frederik has switched over to blackstar series one.. just i need an amp for bedroom playing.. plus i wanna be able to run stompboxes into it & whatnot.

would this be a good amp?

my budget is like 700$

i've already looked at the peavey 6505+ 112 combo just i really don't wanna have to change the speaker right off the bat..

thanks,

Don't bother with the cab. Yeah the bad monkey is fine for that type of metal, it kind of sucks for thrash and it also generates alot of noise unless you tweak with it, just a warning not an issue for me Cleans are not bad, but I'd change the tubes for better cleans, they're not OMG AMAZING, as the amp has mainly had praise for its distortion.

What's stopping you getting a peavey head? I mean I'd probably get that over the blackstar and pedal if I had the money. The blackstar is a good amp don't get me wrong, it just was never made to be a metal amp that's all although you can push it along with some pedals. Just my opinion.

Well the cleans on the Blackstar are alright - nothing spectacular. It has a fair amount of gain, but not enough for anything really heavy.

The cab's aren't the best. Seems like these today are making decent low-watt heads and crapping out on the cabs. If you go with the Blackstar you're probably better off getting a different cab to go with it.

Too much audiophile bullshit getting to your head probably, "311ZOSOVHJH".

The HT-5 with a boost in front for the heavy stuff would be able to cover your desired genres. Keep in mind though that Blackstar doesn't make a 1x12 cab. All they have available is a 2x12 from the Artisan series. I'd avoid Vintage 30's with the HT-5 anyways though. In my experience you can do much better for less.

Or maybe its the fact that he just happens to know more about the subject than you?? Ever think about that?

sorry i meant 1x10 cab... my bad..ahaha... and ight thanks for the info.. i will probally end up getting the peavey.. but the reason for not getting a peavey head is they are to expensive.. even uses the 6505 head is outta my range as my job doesn't pay me alot.. (only student wage atm.. which is 8.90 an hour.. and each paycheck which is every two weeks i make around 200$)

but i also managed to sell my spider III for $350 plus i got $400 in my bank already

These are about a week old and actually below your budget but it might give you some ideas. It was for someone else so it may not fit your genre perfectly.

What about something like a Vypyr tube 60 or a used Triple X.
