Hey, I was looking to get an acoustic bass soon, but I have no idea what to get. I play mostly punk, grunge, indie, and alternative. Bands like Anti-Flag, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, etc. I currently don't know exactly what my budget is, but nothing too expensive, maybe a few hundred at the most.

"A few hundred" is quite vague. Like $300-600?
Only play what you hear. If you don’t hear anything, don’t play anything.

Also, by acoustic bass, you mean an acoustic bass guitar, not a contrabass, correct? I can't really assume either because most of the music you listed doesn't use either.

Also, fretless or fretted? If fretless, I'd say the Michael Kelly Dragonfly. Such a wonderful bass. Beautiful too. If fretted, I'd probably still say Michael Kelly, because they're solid basses.

That being said, the Dragonfly is a bit on the expensive side.

If you are going down that route sound wise, I'd look at the Ibanez Artcore series myself. If you are going use it for gigging, that or a nice P bass type with flats and a small combo amp would be another option.
