Seriously, why do all famous people name their children after really stupid stuff: Kai, Suri, Paris, Apple etc?

Why not just give them a nice common name like Harry or Bob?

..if there are any Japanese UGers confirm if Kai is a common name..

I'm German, but Kai is a quite popular name here in Germany. It's pronounced German, not like the English "Kay".

not Kai-ser lol. I dont think he named him after a german somehow. The English hate the Germans because they want to be like you but cant.

I wouldn't say it's "uncommon," but certainly not a name you see all the time. I see it about as often as I see names like "Shayna" or "Aiden" in the US. Not often, but they're not strange names.

The kid is called Kai Wayne Rooney, so he could always go by his middle name in the future.

I read this as:

"The future kid is called Kai Wayne Rooney."

Much better post.

Because they have to be different than everyone else because they're innately better than us from birth.

I should have added the following question to the thread...

''which video game character would you have liked to be named after?''
#15
I found the MK video funnier than the actual story.

"You fought well, Kai - You are now a true Shaolin Warrior"

"Thanks, Raiden"

Apparently, Kai means "Keeper of the keys" in Scotland and Ireland.

Dunno about Japan, but according to a Norwegian website, there are about 5500 people named Kai here. While the origin of the name is uncertain, it's suspected that it comes from the Latin name "Gaius" or "Caius", but may also have come from the Norse word "kahta", which means "chicken" or "hen".

It was apparently very popular back here in Norway in the late 70's.

I could be wrong but he is known to be a fan of Mortal Kombat. If its true he could have at least named it Sub Zero

Its not an uncommon name in Japan but its not really that popular. It wouldnt be so bad for the kid if he didnt have his dad`s first name with it.
