Im new to the board, so... Hello to everyone!!!!

I've always played acoustical, so.... please bear with me.

I have noooo idea about any effects at all, whatsoever, except some very basic stuff, like reverb.

For example, I don't know the difference between a distortion and overdrive.

I downloaded a demo of Guitar rig, and I'm completely lost. I've slowly been getting some idea about what each components does, because of some presets that come with the program.

For example, I knew what a noise gate was, but when I see all the knobs, I have no idea what to do with them. I messed around and learned a few things, but I don't have time to mess around, I want to learn efficiently and quickly.

The program provides some definitions, for example for Stomp Compressor (The Stomp Compressor provides a different type of compression action
compared to the Tube Compressor, but follows the same basic principle
of operation: It evens out dynamic range variations by amplifying soft
signals to make them louder, and attenuating loud signals to make them
softer. Most would characterize the sound as being “tighter” and perhaps
somewhat cleaner than the Tube Compressor. )

Ths definition is rocket science to me.

The Guitar Rig manual assumes you have some before hand knowledge on effects. Where do I begin? Is there like an Guitar Amps and FX for dummies out there?
