What if, 404 years ago today, Guy Fawkes hadn't been detected, and had succeeded in blowing up Parliament and the King? The political and social elite of the country would have been obliterated.
How different would Britain be today?

Maybe you'd be driving on the right side of the road

Seriously though... someone would've just taken their place.

Replacing would have been hard back then. Also, it was just Kennedy. Imagine if Congress, the Senate and the Vice-President had been killed as well. it'd be that sort of situation
#26
Kennedy was easily replaced because there'd been a contingency plan for that sort of thing for decades.

then lets assume for a minute the English who had been running their country for quite some time(Successfully might I add) by this time would have had a contingency plan in order

honestly

The Gunpowder Treason would have had the same effect as wiping out the entire list of people in line for the Presidency. So no, it doesn't.

Kennedy =/= Entire US Government.

This would have been the equivalent to killing Kennedy, Congress, and whoever the Vice President was at the time. Sure, they would have been replaced by SOMEBODY, but there would have been a huge impact.

The Government will align themselves with popular support and powerful support and would probably make a temporary military dictatorship until things settled down for representative democracy. The appeal of the Whigs would be diminished so we would affectively have an even more conservative culture, maybe even more nationalist.

Bad post.

In Republics you normally have a higher council and a President to head. If you lost a President, you still got your council, in this case congress.

Thing is this was a house of commons. Imagine if congress was wiped out alongside the President. It'd be a vastly more drastic.

No it wouldn't. Some would of been absent and the most powerful of the lot would re-decide the seats of Parliament.

I'm not sure what's so bad about it... Everyone I bolded is in Congress.

1 Vice President (sometimes)
2 Speaker of the House of Representatives
3 President pro tempore of the Senate

4 Secretary of State
5 Secretary of the Treasury
6 Secretary of Defense
7 Attorney General
8 Secretary of the Interior
9 Secretary of Agriculture
10 Secretary of Commerce
11 Secretary of Labor
12 Secretary of Health and Human Services
13 Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
14 Secretary of Transportation
15 Secretary of Energy
16 Secretary of Education
17 Secretary of Veterans Affairs
18 Secretary of Homeland Security

We would still have a leader over here. The problem is, she wouldn't have anybody to lead. Guy Fawkes would have still left the House of Lords (I think), with no clear leader.
