Well, my guitarist recently bought this Douglas:

He likes it, but plans on replacing the pickups. We play instrumental progressive rock/metal, and he likes tones such as John Petrucci's early sound, Steve Vai, and things of that nature. I was thinking Dimarzios would suit him well, but I don't know anything when it comes to guitar pickups.

Any help is appreciated. As far as price goes, he'd like to keep it under $200 for a set. He plays through a Peavey Valveking 112. Not many effects really, but it's something he'd like to venture further into.

Thanks in advance guys.

Maybe a set of dimarzio blazes or air nortons would suit him, or a mix of the two.

Yeah, the air nortons might be nice. Also check bareknuckle pickups but in the end it all depends on your taste. Listen to the pickups before buying, it sucks to be stuck with pickups you dont like.
