I need help getting a good metal tone. An example of what I'm looking for might be something like Alice Cooper 's guitar players on "Cold Ethyl", and some Motley Crue and WASP type stuff. All the tones I am getting are either too fat, have too little distortion, or are too thin.

My equipment:
Fender FM15 DSP Amplifier
Boss Overdrive/Distortin OS-2 Pedal
Fender Stratocaster Squier Guitar

set the treble and bass knobs to full, and middle to 0. Then add middle to fatten it up and treble and bass down to taste. Treble pickup for rythm an middle pickup for lead. distortion 7-8 ish. these are all general and depends on amp and guitar etc. you could always go for a tube screamer or metal distortion pedal too?

Mick Mars does it with a Strat and it works for him.
