I have always been interested in improvisation on an instrument, and I do it whenever I can when playing with other people. They usually start playing something, and I'll just come in soloing. Granted I am not very good at it, but that's why I want to practice!
I came across a program called band in a box, and it looks very promising for improving my improvisation skills. So, how can I create good chord progressions to solo over?

Keep the chord progressions fairly simple to start with, maybe like a 12 bar blues style thing in the key of your choice, and as you become more confident branch out to more chords.
