I'm playing in A#. When I play open A palm muted, it sounds very weak and muddy. I want it to sound more tight and pounding(like at 0:11 at this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CugnVOTPAM) I was wondering if less bass with more mids and treb might work, but haven't tried it yet.

Dont cut the mids man. More bass and mids is the key i think

You are tuned pretty low, creating natural bass. If your eq has a high bass setting, then that's a recipe for muddy palm mutes.
Reduce your amps bass by 2, and add a notch to the mid and treble dials.

More *higher* mids in particular. Mids can make a sound muddy too. Most "mud" comes from too much happening in the lower mid frequencies.
