I was wondering what you could do to get a depressing guitar tone. I have already tuned down 1/2 step(my favorite tuning lol). Thanks for reading.
#3
depressing tone? Cut back your treble a bit and play the minor scale I guess

#5
depressing in which sense? I'm sure you could find a guitar tone so bad that it makes everyone's ears depressed..
#6
Okay thanks, I'll mess around with the treble then. The amp thats in my basement is my brother's 5150 so ill mess with the different setting, thanks. My brother has a Mesa boogie amp at his house and he says it gets some high gain so would that amp be better?
#8
Add some tremolo or rapid phaser? Like in My Baby Shot Me Down from Nancy Sinatra.
Your nickname might help you too, listen to The Cure's Pornography album.
#10
Buy an extremely rare or great amp, turn the mids all the way down, and think you're playing heavy. That's depressing. Or better yet, blow some speakers and tubes, then play. Depression town. Population = you and the now-possibly crappy gear.

Learn the harmonic minor and the diminished scale.
Why should I come down?
From here, I can see forever.
#15
Hmm, not very high treble, kinda high bass and mid, and minor scale

And if nothing works, verbally abuse your guitar

Wanne know how Harrison made his guitar weep gently? Verbal abuse, and locking it in a case with padding. All the blues guitarist bullied their guitars,

I missed you

But yeah, TS, just get a really high gain amp and play a lot of minor scales, or combine a clean sound with flanger, delay, chorus, or even phaser, and still play minor scales
#21
I get the impression you're trolling, but I'd suggest reverb and some delay.

Or singing a bare bones song on a downtuned nylon acoustic.

Personally I think the minor third interval sounds very sad. Especially this minor third interval:
D||--0--
A||--2--
I know it's a B minor 3 in that scenario but it's the position that matters more than the root note. I just think the minor 3rd being on an open string gives it a much more melancholy sound.
Speed is a by-product of shut the fuck up.

Sad tone comes in many flavors, not just muddy, turn-down-treble flavors.

Check out Jeff Beck, for example.

But honestly, your note choice is most important.
Want: EH Deluxe Memory Man, Warmoth Strat, Budda Superdrive 45

note choice, minor keys, long wide vibrato and long bends all help
turn down the treble a bit and add a bit of reverb/delay and some tremolo/vibrato effects

Agreed. In all seriousness, if you don't know about any of the other things the others have mentioned, the simplest route is to play the pentatonic in d minor. Very emotional key thar, I use it a lot for slower and more ballady type songs that are more bluesy.
