hi there, members of the electric guitar sub forum!

im looking for recommendations for a semi-hollow guitar.

budget: 700USD

styles i'm hoping to cover with it: jazz, some blues, a little bit of classic rock

hoping for: reliable tuning stability, acceptable factory setups, acceptable durability, acceptable hardware

i'm currently looking at the Epiphone Dot. But i'm willing to look at all other brands as well. at the moment my priority goes out to brand new guitars.

anyone got any nice semi hollow guitars to recommend?

i would say epiphone dot for your budget.. if you had way way more $2000 AUD i would recomend trying to find a michael kelly JZ pheonix. I have one, and it is great, but you couldn't find one... about 60 were hand made in america

No.

Well, technically it could be done, but only in the same way that you could change a cat into a hamburger. It's an unpleasant process, and nobody is happy with the result.

epiphone sheraton II and hagstrom viking are worth a look and I like both of them

also check out the Ibanez Artcore series for the semi-hollows. I've never played any of their semi-hollows so i can't say anything of it other than it exists

I've played a couple and they sounded good enough, they just felt a bit cheap.

I would look at a casino, or just get a dot and swap the pickups. Also check craigslist, I've seen some interesting ones there. There are also things like Aria's and Xtone's, but I've never played or heard anyone play them.

Can I recommend an Epiphone Kat series?
If you want humbuckers it's the Alleykat, or like me you prefer sweet P90 single coils it's the Wildkat.

Have recently purchased a Wildkat. An absolute dream of a guitar for a brilliant price. Well within your budget. Google it.

Not sure how you could call the Ibanez AS73, which is part of the artcore series, a bit cheap. For the money you are getting an incredible amount of guitar. The finish on the one have is exceptional and the sound excellent as well. If you were paying twice as much I could understand why you would say that.

Sharp_edge you really must go and at least try the AS73. I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised.
