I'm in need of an guitar amp because an old friend got ahold of me and needs another guitarist. here's the myspace so you can hear the style.

http://www.myspace.com/killerkadoogan

basically, I've spent so much money on bass gear that i never actually bothered getting a guitar amp like i had wanted. So I need a (relatively)cheap amp that is good quality and will get me a sound fitting to this music style. I'm not sure of budget for sure but if we could keep it $1000US and below that'd be great. I'll be having to work quite a bit of overtime to pay for this. They are gigging and i have no idea what kind of PA system I'd be dealing with here.

I will be using my Ibanez RG2610 prestige with emg81 in the bridge, which should do the trick quite well. Just need an amp.

for that money you can get a great amp... maybe go to your local music store and try some amps out.

i did forget to mention that I also need a cab for it. I love peavey. which one would you specifically recommend...it's kinda hard to find amps around here. only place with a selection is guitar center and that's a bit of a drive for me. I'll prolly end up going there for it because no one else around here has much.

If you like Peavey, the 6505 is one of the go-to amps for metal.

I do agree. +1

so i was thinking maybe the 6505 2x12 combo. being a combo brings the overall price down a bit and i'm sure the tone would still work out quite nicely.

Opinions?

EDIT: also, i kind of hate to do it because i'm such a peavey fanboy but would a bugera 6262 do well? or are there still QC issues?

If you need cleans go for the Triple XXX, otherwise go 6505 and don't look back.

You could get a used 5150 for $500
and a used Mesa 212/412 cab for $500.

I also recommend the Bugera 330xl (I think it sounds quite a bit better than the 6262 in gain and in the clean channel.)

hey guys. just found this on craigslist. it's about 1 hour - 1 1/2 hour drive....not bad for my location and the gear availability here. $400 sounds pretty good to me . also according to harmony central $400 seems to be the going price. But, before I go for that kind of drive to try it out i'm wondering if anyone here has had experience with it.

Peavey Ultra 212

4x12ax7, 2x6L6GC

what exactly is 6L6GC? direct replacement for 6L6?

EDIT: remember that with the money saved i could buy a boost or something to give more gain/tighten up the sound.

also found out that the head version is called the peavey ultra 60.

6l6GC are the 6l6s for guitar amps.

regular 6l6s for stereo amps are different from 6l6s for guitar amps.

Definitely agree with the Peavey suggestions. 5150/6505 will do it for you, but if you want to be a little different, have three independent channels and a better clean, get the 3120/XXX.

ah. ok thanks much.

From what i can find from sound clips it seems like it may possibly fit the bill. here's a good example of what i found.

Any other opinions of on this amp from anyone? I guess I shouldn't have to worry about reliablility since it's a Peavey product.

I'm sure I'll also need a noise suppressor so this price has really got me interested.

The Ultra is supposed to be a predecessor to the XXX/JSX/3120 stuff.
