BBC are now changing their wording of the document.

They now say Mercedes are leaving McLaren altogether.
#83
Iiiiiinteresting. Nico and Nick?

All-German team then?

Where will ross go? and Jenson to McLaren for an all british team?

Damn the school filters >

Right.

Seems a bit clearer now. Mercedes will continue with McLaren till 2015.

Stupid BBC.

Brawn may also become 'Silver Arrows'.

Oh dear. The BBC news 24 is still saying Mercedes is NOT going to continue with McLaren and that Brawn will become Mercedes GP.

>_>

They're selling their McLaren stake but will continue supplying them engines.
#87
Exciting int it. Hopefully Heidfeld gets a competitive car in the Brawn.

Peculiar. Might be the best option though. It'd be great if McLaren made their own engines.
#89
Merc aren't dumping their McLaren stake immediately, McLaren are buying it back over the next two years.

I think next time there are major changes to the engine rules McLaren will probably start building their own.

Haug says driver announcements will be within weeks probably, definitely this year.

Yeah if I was McLaren I'd spend the next 5 years working on improving or building an engine from scratch for the car, There are rules that say that they can't use new engines are there? Or can they use completely new ones? Else that only leaves Ferrari, Renault, Toyota, Honda and Cosworth engines I believe. Would be nice to see McLaren Honda race again But it's unlikely due to the fact that honda don't have a team anymore...

2013 is when the current agreements and regulations expire.

Spending several years developing a fuel efficient [the FIA's next engine mantra] engine could reap rewards, though they may want to start before that.

a clear explanation:

http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/091116133246.shtml

Confirming rumours that had been in the air for several weeks, Mercedes announced today that it will be taking over a 75.1% stake in this year's championship-winning team, Brawn GP.

Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche and Mercedes Motorsport chief Norbert Haug also confirmed that starting next season, the team will be renamed Mercedes GP.

Ross Brawn and Nick Fry, along with other partners, will detain the remaining 24.9% in Mercedes GP. Brawn will continue as Team Principal, but no drivers have been confirmed.

Mercedes currently holds a 40% participation in the McLaren team; that portion will be bought back by McLaren over a period reaching until 2011, at which point the team will become independent.

However Mercedes will continue supplying engines to McLaren until 2015 and the cars will retain their silver livery.

About time.
Rosberg and Heidfeld, Hamilton and Button as the pairings?
Bad news for McLaren. They really do need a partner or they could be where they were in the mid 90s, where Williams are now, before Mercedes came in. At least, they have lots of time to find someone and will have Mercedes engines for 5 years.
It's gonna be a blue day

This sucks.

No more Brawn... And I really enjoyed their liveries.

This also means there now only 3 fully UK teams next year... actually, that's not bad.
I'm just upset that there will be no more yellow/white cars on track.

So what if Mclaren take Kimi, Button would be searching for a drive still and maybe have to settle for one of the new teams....

I honestly think Button to McLaren would be career suicide. He should just take any Brawn/Merc GP offers left on the table and get himself a secure drive.

However, Button and his darts player manager are notoriously awful at making the right decisions with regards to Button's employment.

EDIT : I sent a bit of chat to the arsey Polish guy that jumped on me for missing a couple of sessions. He says ;

'I hope, this was your last holiday until we finish season '

Threatening, tbh.

I've told him to relax. If he doesn't, I'm gonna screw his racing.

EDIT 2 : From Autosport forums

Hamilton to Mercedes? He wasn't touring the McLaren headquarters last week like everyone else, was he?

I very much fear that this will happen, it just seems to be heading that way. It's just like Damon in every way, he had offers from McLaren, Ferrari and another team that I cannot recall that he didn'tt take up and he ended up being a joke of a world champion in many ways.

I hope Jenson has been told 'the ballad of Damon Hill' before he goes and repeats it, leaving us the British F1 community to write a sequal

Just heard about Brawn. I'm gutted. I LOVE the liveries. Also, OP updated.

+1

I love the livery too.
If I had money, I'd be out there buying Brawn GP branded clothing.
Maybe some of the model car too!

He's more similar to Damon than I originally thought.

His first good chance at doing well was thwarted by Michael Schumacher (Damon Hill, 1994 The Infamous Crash. Jenson Button 2004 He came 3rd because Schumacher and Ferrari were so dominant)

He wins his first WDC because his car was so much better than all the others while it counted (Williams 1996, Brawn 2009)

and now the potential of being out of a great team and into a not so great team.

The evidence is stacking up!

Lol.

Brawn/Merc have released a mock-up of the BGP1 in Merc livery: http://bit.ly/mDxRe

Hill flirted with McLaren before ending up at Arrows - another similarity if Jenson ends up at the back of the grid
#104
Looks pretty. I wouldn't mind if Jenson stopped racing this year, However it would be nice to see him doing it next year. I just don't think there's much need for him to have a good team. As nice as it is to have one world champion win many years running, It's fantastic to see different ones win in corresponding years too.

Ugh is this gonna be another TR/RB livery thing? It'll be annoying if we can't tell the cars apart again.

That's what I thought when I saw that pic. 4 silver cars..

Perhaps Vodafone will want a bit more red on the McLarens.
#108
Yeah hopefully. Hell I'd be happy if they ran with the old white and red again.

It's lucky Force India changed their livery. Otherwise there'd have been 6 cars we couldn't tell the difference between!

Glad Glock has a seat

Great coup for Manor. Glad Glock's got a seat.

I'm hoping Mercedes keep the Brawn livery. At least, keeping the car mainly white.

the brawn livery looks awesome, it will be sad to see it change. still a nice looking car though imo so they shouldn't be able to screw it up too badly.

TBH, "Team GB" V ""Team 'Germany'" would be fun... and it would give me a team to support. I'm not that big on Mclaren [which is why I liked Brawn], but if this fun little 'rivalry' happened, it will give me another team [Apart from Force India, Williams and maybe Red Bull] to cheer on.

Well he'll make a bit more money and he can go off and try out some more rallying for a year. Then if he feels like it I'm sure another team would be happy to open a door for him. For example McLaren as I don't think Button will work out there.

Anyone watch the James May program tonight?

He [and the local community] built a 2.7 mile Scalextric circuit at Brand's Hatch, although with a few tweaks to ensure they could get it built.

Including 'Dead fox tunnel'

It was fantastic to see, almost a shame they didn't keep more footage of some of the more spectacular sections of the track.

I did. It would be a great racing series. Imagine a fullsize version of the other greats. (which not being a Classic Racing nut I don't know).
