close windows. I put a pillow behind the speaker of my amp. put the volume at 0. Headphones. depends on the apartment too. Our place has thin but hard walls. And I play at the end of the building, so I don't really disturb anyone. Loudest I played at was on 3, and I almost died by the sound. You can't play loudly even if you wanted to. It becomes inaudible because of the sizes of the rooms.

Yes you do, your deal is just like a guitarist's deal. Acoustic = No volume control, electric = volume control.

Our neighbours are literally terrified of us. Probably has something to do with one of us joking that one neighbour's dress made her look pregnant, then the consequentual beating up of her boyfriend after he got incredibly pissy about it (the girl took it light heartedly, but this guy was a moron and punched a window in). And probably the large number of big parties we have where we blast death metal, fire off guns, hang out of windows shouting, and generally make a lot of noise.

Regardless, the amps in our flat go all the way up to 11. Kinda do feel bad for the neighbours, though, espcially considering the police can never seem to tell exactly where the noise is coming from according to folks across the road (they linger around looking up at the flats and occassionally hammer the buzzer for our door, which is conveniently broken).

Sorry for blethering. I'm trying to keep my hands warm

My neighbors usually have a harder time dealing with my constant sobbing.

I don't really live in an apartment.

Everyone in my apartment is a musician. We all tolerate each other whenever anyone wants to be loud. My room mate doesn't play anything anymore, so she gets pissed a lot but whatever. The band upstairs is the worst in the world, they play 30 second clips of chili peppers songs badly. Not fun when you're trying to eat dinner or study.

It's not the same thing really because the electric version in our world is really less of an option due to price and you don't see guys gigging with electronic kits.

Less of an option because of price? They're about the same price.

I live in an apartment but basically the only time where i have time to practice is like mid afternoon on some days. I'm bettting that my neighbors don't like me regardless of how loud i play. I'm sure they don't mind the screaming practice either.

Headphones are the only thing that will stop it from bugging the neighbors.

I've been trying to find a good preamp tube combo for my bass amp over the last few weeks, and it sucks because I can't get a good feel for the tone unless I open things up a bit. Surprised the neighbors haven't called the cops yet.

Also, I'd be upfront when you move in. See a new neighbor and say "Hey I'm moving in above you, if I'm ever too loud or anything, let me know, my number is 555-1234" You'll get away with a lot more and they'll like you better if you lay something like that out.

depends what type of apparment you are going for, is it just an everyday appartment or one designed for students

play it as loud as you want, just say after 9pm keep the volume at a respectable level.

good idea is to actually talk to neigbours and get on well with them, make the point of saying you play guitar and will be respectful and watch the volume after 9pm. and just generally say 'let me know if i am being too noisy'. if you show that you are a nice person and generally want to get along then any problems about noise will be minimal and well usually just be a kind 'would you mind turning it down for a bit, thanks' type thing
