So I'm getting a new guitar in about a month but I'm stuck on what to actually get. I've narrowed it down to either an Ibanez or ESP. I play mainly 80s metal.

Ah, the price range is 400-500$

As for shape/spec I don't have much of a preference.

I'll have to say ibanez. Most LTDs under $500 ( so under 400 models ) aren't very well made. ESP/LTD shines in the higher end range.

....Well everyone can just list guitar brands for you to check out or you could start looking at what you really want in the guitar.

Type of bridge?
Type of neck joint?
Pickup layout?
Woods?
Anything else that you know you want?

IMO take a look at Jackson, better bang for your buck around that price range.
