Okay guys, I have a confession to make. Not really a confession since it's something that's been bugging me for awhile but I've always been in denial about it.

i must agree with this man...though i'm too thrilled with what he's implying with the "civilized civilized parts of the world" comment...

i come from indiana and everyone there says pop but, when i moved to florida everyone gave me weird stares because they all say soda

actually, most people down here refer to all carbonated beverages as "coke"

they'll say bring me a coke and when you bring them one they yell at you because they meant mountain dew or something ridiculous

Why? Why have you done this?

I can't remember the last time I had to even think about why
people would refer to any soft drink as "pop," because, thankfully,
it seemed that for a while the trend died out.

Then you have to go and make this post. And now, thanks to you,
I can see that for a fact, there's still at least 2 people who still
refer to it as pop.

I'm not a violent person by nature now.. but everytime someone
refers to a Coke or Pepsi as "pop" I have to restrain myself from
raining my fists down upon their face to rebuke them of their
terrible inclinations.

People in my region call it pop, for some reason I've turned to saying soda over the last few years. I always said "pop" as a kid, now my girlfriend (who I guess finds it funny because of studying linguistics) always makes fun of me for saying soda when no else here does.

If it's clear what I'm referring to, I usually use the generic "beverage."

We call it frisdrank or prik. This problem is beyond me.

from now on I will be calling it "frisdrank." That's bad ass. Hope no one thinks I'm making fun of the ebonic "drank"... which I am.

Pepsi is called coke
Dr. Pepper is called Dr. Pepper.
We don't ave Mt. Dew over here.
Sprite is Lemonade
Coke is called Coke.

Anything else falls under fizzy drinks.

Pop is an old person word. Soda is too yank. So the UK had to use something else.
I hope it doesn't seem, like I'm young, foolish, and green.

In a restaurant, I might call them soft drinks overall because that's how they're described on the menu; but generally we just refer to them by brand names
