I love a good acoustic/clean electric riff. The more complex, the better, although it shouldn't be complex for complexity's sake; it should go hand in hand with a brilliant and catchy melody. Any favorites? Here are some of mine:

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

I've been a big fan of CS & N "Carry On" for some time.

And then there's Jimi Hendrix's version of "Hey Joe"...heavy, but not metal.

David Gilmour's career is full of great non-metal riffs- "Run Like Hell", "Blue Light", "All lovers are deranged", "Meddle" and so many more...

Pete Townshend "Give Blood"

The Who "Eminence Front"

Arc Angels "Too Many Ways to Fall"

Dick Dale...almost everything.

Link Wray "Rumble"

I'm going to have to say the riff after the intro in Opeth- Closure. It drags on for a longg ass time, but it sounds amazing everytime it repeats. I never get sick of that riff.

SRV's riffs. I love the "chorus" of sorts on Cliffs of Dover as well.

Brad Paisley and Keith Urban have some pretty catchy riffs as well if you're into country.
