I am looking for a five string bass for practicing at home and as backup for when play bass in my gothic metal band.

I have tried of all basses that I have listed below.

Ibanez SR305M
Ibanez SR505
Ibanez SR405
ESP LTD B-105

The budget is about 300-600 USD if the Fender MIA Strat that i'm get rid sells for the price i set it at.

What did you think of the basses you tried out?

I myself think the SR505 is the best out of those options.

TL;DR: Saw a girl at Wal-Mart, she started feeling me up, I jizzed in my pants.

Shit, I'm so pathetic.

[quote="'[BurnTheDusk"]']I agree, tone does sound better the closer your genitals are to the ground.

The SR series are great basses. Look used, I found a Fender Deluxe Active Jazz V in my local shop the other day going for like $450. Also, you might want to take a look at the Traben Array 5 Limited, or some 5 string Schecter Stilettos.

I was comparing the ibanez's against the Fenders a hour ago.

I liked the P Bass version because of the punch that the jazz bass doesn't have but they quite compare to the ibanez's though.

Then again the Fender is a better quality instrument.

^ not necessarily true. Many people generally consider MIM's to be a hit or miss thing, some are fantastic, on par with MIA's quality control-wise, while some people have come across some particularly bad examples. Don't let that dissuade you if you like the Fenders though. If it came down to it though, I'd say overall, Ibanez is more reliable at producing quality instruments. Best to go try out as many 5-ers as possible though.

The Yamaha RBX375 has a very thick punchy tone to it.

There are any number of basses that you would do well with. Ibanez SR's are pretty generic in terms of tone.

Here's a link to musician's friend's 5-string basses, sorted by price. Your price range ends somewhere on page 4. Stay away from Epiphone, Dean, and B.C. Rich...everything else is good quality for what you pay.

Nope, no sig here.

thanks for all the input that you have provided me but I'll buy the SR405 since it's well suited in terms of price and comfort.

if you really like reliability you should consider the ESP's my esp guitar the F50 is just the base model and its built like a tank its 6 years old and doesent have any scratches on it and my other guitars have plenty and i treat all my instruments the same

you mentioned you liked chunkier necks esp 5 strings are a good comprimise between large fender necks and ibenez thin ones
