I'll keep this pretty simple. Right now I have two beginner guitars, and I want to buy a good guitar that would be a step up from that. I'm not looking for a super high quality instrument, just an intermediate guitar that will sound better than my $200. I want it to be a guitar that's worth the money though. I don't really have anything in mind, so I'll just set my budget at $500. I play rock and metal pretty exclusively and would like a fitting guitar for that.

Floyd rose or a hard tail or a strat style trem? No. of frets? Pickup layout? Neck joint construction? Woods used for the guitar?

Uh I don't really have anything that specific in mind. Preferably I'd like a guitar that has 22 frets and two humbuckers.

As azn_guitarist25 said, check out some Ibanez.
The particular model depends a lot on your taste.

I'd also suggest you try a couple ESP LTD's. They're in your price range and are nice guitars for rock and metal.

A couple ideas (since i don't know which body shapes you like):

Bit of a bummer like but ah well shit happens I guess but now you can look at Agile guitars (supposedly pretty good value) if you prefer the LP styled guitars otherwise if you're still into your super strats then a used MIJ Ibanez RG would be perfect except for 24 frets.

Sweet, I'm gonna take a look at those ibanez and esp's. I was also looking at the PRS SE series, are they any good?
