Heyy everyone.

Lately i've been putting my electric down in favour of my acoustic (much to the disdain of my friends who don't think it's as 'cool'. So i've decided to ask my parents for a new acoustic for a joint birthday (next wednesday...wooo) and christmas presen.

I'm looking to spend about £150 maybe and i can add a bit of money so top price is maybe around £200ish, although i'm mainly hoping for about £150. Also it has to be durable and fairly low maintenance as im not that good at keeping guitars in amazing condition, i don't wreck them, they're just prone to a few minor bumps and knocks.

Also i mainly play rock or classic rock although acoustic metal intros and progressive music are also high on my agenda. i often play songs similar to ffaf - your revolution is a joke, clapton - tears in heaven, loadsa pink floyd, all the way up to inflames and similar metal bands. So it preferably needs a varied tone.

It doesn't need any electrics as i mic up for any recordings and tune it etc myself.

Also i use a variety of the simpler techniques i.e fingerpicking, pick and play a lot of chords due to playing both lead and rhythm.

So far i've been leaning towards the Washburn D10s, i'm just wondering if it matches the hype its given. and also they sell for £179.99 in my local store, is this a decent price or should i try to haggle them down/buy from somewhere else?

Thank you so much in advance for any advice given and feel free to ask any questions.

Since I'm rather ignorant, and too lazy to research, I'm not quite sure how much that is in american, but I talked to the specialist in acoustic guitars at a local mom and pop shop for a few hours, since I'm looking to get an acoustic as well, and eventually settled on the idea of looking for a $350-400ish acoustic from Alvarez. I played one in that price range right up next to an ibanez that was fifty dollars more, and still prefered the alvarez. I'm seriously set on getting that guitar soon. You might just wanna check that company out and see what you think.

Okay cool ill check them out, any particular models or series that you'd recommend?

I can't remember the exact model number, but I also just remembered that it was an acoustic electric and that you said you weren't interested in those, besides, the electronics are mostly what bump the price.
Regardless, I'd still give that company a shot, if you can.
Basically, if you're like me and you don't really know very much about acoustics, just try to find one that feels so right to hold that you could easily picture playing it in your room, and if looks are important to you, make sure to keep that in mind, you know, glossy versus natural finish, etc.

another vote for a seagull or a yamaha - specifically any yamaha in the 700 series is worth a look, the 300 series have laminate tops, which means less volume, sustain and nuance. btw, i tried a couple washburn D10's. they so did not live up to the hype - ouch!

Check out the Cort Earth 70 or the new Earth Grand. Both are excellent acoustics with solid tops for under £200
I pick up my guitar and play

Thanks to everyone whos posted.

I've been looking through the What Guitar Under $300 thread for a little while and i've seen a few guitars i like (the Seagul Entourage, Alvarez RD210 Regent) but problem is where i am there aren't many guitar stores, if any, that stock them (i have yet to find one) and i'm certain with low end guitars like these i really do need to check them before i spend my money. =/ None of the nearby stores even stock anything from the manufacturer so i can't really request one to try and buy. Any advice for the situation, oh and btw i'm 16 so travelling around is pretty difficult and my parents aren't really willing to drive me more than like, 30 minutes away just to get a guitar. =/ Ill keep my eye out for what you guys said though and i should be popping into my local store to try a load of acoustics this wednesday.

Thank you so much for all the advice.

Edit: a few local stores stock tanglewoods and ibanez (AW40's 10's 90's etc) acoustics, any that are worth a look or you'd recommend?
