Is there an easy fix to pickup squeal? my pickups make a god awful squeal at anything near/past 9 o'clock on the volume knob, slightly overdriven or clean, even like acdc overdrive.

its driving me nuts because i cant crank my amp(even tho its not tube) and by crank i mean like a decent like a decent jam volume, im home along all weekend

my pickups are wax potted, and its my les paul(see sig) and my rocktron amp(see sig aswell)

im upgrading my amp or guitar soon, and im going to be getting new pickups soonish(gotta wait a bit)

so if anyone has any ideas i would greatly appreciate it

Pickups too close to the strings? try lowering them.

i had it set up with everything they could do,.

neck pickup is almost flush with the bracket, bridge is a little higher, not much, maybe a 1/8th showing from a side angle

If your handy with a soldering iron you can shield your guitar with copper foil, that should fix it.

copper foil?

where would i find such a foil?

or would tin foil do the trick, i lowered my pickups a bit more, and the squeal is still there quite a bit, let me try with higher gain.

EDIT: high gain=ears bleeding and kinda ringing from the squeal now.

personally i dont think that 9 o'clock with a slight bluesy overdrive shoudl create squeal, and ill be damned if i need to keep a noisegate on whilst playing blues!

EDIT2: guess no one wants to help poor little west?

isnt wax potting supposed to stop feed back and squealing?

pretty sure it does.

Wax Potting does help, when done properly. My bet is they did a shoddy job in the factory and you're left with this feedback. Although, I don't see why that would only happen at certain volumes.

Uhmmm......are you sure it's not the amp?

im positive, ive used my other guitar and i can crank it to whatever volume i want.

its not at certain volumes, just when its somewhat loud, but i dont find it loud.

or if there is a bit of gain

+1

They did a shody job at the factory.

Either:
1. Go learn how to wax pot the pickups and do it (too much effort)
2. Pick up some new DiMarzios or Seymour Duncan and throw them in (less effort and NPD).

it's so cool to hate Gibson, even the federal Department of Justice hates them.
