Hey guys,

My amp recently started to crackle when I play the low E, or lower (drop D). I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. Could this be a problem with the tubes?? Or would it be a speaker problem?? Again, it doesn't crackle on the higher notes, even the 1st fret on the low E, just when it's an open E or lower...
Any ideas??

Thanks for the input.

What amp? I'm pretty sure it's natural tube OD. Most amps, even SS do that on low notes.

It's definitely not OD, more like when you have a bad cable and you fidget with it, that kind of crackling.
That said, it's not one of my cables. I've tried it with mine and other's...

Oh. I doubt it's a tube problem. Maybe something in your guitar or amp is dirty?

I've tried different guitar's as well, so it's definitely my amp... what would be dirty that would cause it to crackle on the low notes only??

Someone I was talking to said it could be a problem with the speaker... he didn't elaborate because he had to go, but is that a possibility? If so, what kind of problem would it be?
