My friend passed away a few days ago and I wrote this song for him:

Harry’s Song (We Didn’t Even Have Time to Say Goodbye)

You meant so much to all of us,
You were special, that's no lie.
You brightened up the darkest day,
And the cloudiest of skies.

Where have you gone?
You didn’t give us any time.
Where will we meet again?
We didn’t even have time to say goodbye.
We didn’t even have time to say goodbye.

And I think of all the things that we’ve been through,
All those special, happy times.
There will always be a special place for you in our hearts,
So that we’ll never have to be apart.

Where have you gone?
You didn’t give us any time.
Where will we meet again?
We didn’t even have time to say goodbye.
We didn’t even have time to say goodbye.

And I know you're in a place much better than here.
Watching and helping me with all of my fear.
Our friendship, my friend, we will have till the end,
But the fact that you’re gone, I just can’t comprehend.

Where have you gone?
You didn’t give us any time.
Where will we meet again?
We didn’t even have time to say goodbye.
We didn’t even have time to say goodbye.

Where have you gone?
You didn’t give us any time.
Where will we meet again?
We didn’t even have time to say goodbye.
We didn’t even have time to say goodbye.

Our friendship, my friend, we will have till the end,
But we didn’t even have time to say goodbye.

I like the "Where have you gone?" verse. I could picture it as a nice, emotional chorus in an alt-rock ballad. Sorry to hear about your friend, man.
