There are no stars in this two horse town
Everybody’s laughing like the joke's still around
The babies are all crying but no one can hear
because everybody's drinking like the end's drawing near
(near, the end's drawing near)

No one left a note for the one’s left behind
Buried in their beds dreaming mass suicide
They’ll know it when they wake like a dog left at home
Burying the public like it’s one of their own
(their own, like it’s one of their own)

Flowers on the grave of a name time forgot
The marble lasts forever and the flowers they rot
Three cheers for the fallen and the money we lost
The drinks keep on coming but we can’t foot the cost
(the cost, we just can’t foot the cost)

And it’s a brand new story that I’ve already told
It’s a brand new taste of defeat
It’s the same old silence but never before
Did it bring me too my knees
Like this like this
Like this like this
Like this like this

Like this drifter that I met on my way to the park
He held a sign that read “Hey, it’s a shot in the dark
But if you see a girl named Lola with a spark in her eye
Tell her that I’ll love her ‘til the day that I die.”
(I die, until the day that I die)

Now I can’t stop thinking about this town full of dead
Homophobes and patriots in blue white and red
Drinking til their livers gasp and wave a white flag
The story of a people desperate and sad
(and sad, and turning out just like Dad)

it's typical pop-song repetition haha
there's no meaning behind it other than its use as a transistion

Great lines:

This is really, really, good. Especially the verse about the drifter. The last verse is too preachy, and "we can't foot the cost" seems like a tacky line, but overall, I really like it.
8.5/10

I've got a song about drifters, too: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1231583

I can't critique that because it's been closed. Repost it with a proper title and I'll get on it right away.
