So i got windows 7 and its pretty cool, but as soon as i turn it on, my ram is at 30% and my cpu at 15% before i do anything. Is there anything i can disable or do to reduce this, because i need it to be low to run music VSTs smoothly.

BTW my pc has 2gb RAM and a the cpu speed is 2.6Ghz

Reduce the number of background programs on start-up.

Get more RAM.

My CPU is a 2.4GHz duel core and it runs at 3 - 5% on idle. Though I have 4GB RAM.

Try disabling some background programmes that you really do not need. Usually helps. Im no computer expert though.

Hit Start -> Run
-> Enter msconfig
-> in the window that pops up select the start up tab
-> disable unwanted programs from the list and hit apply

P.S Be a lil careful about what you disable ...your antivirus might have an agent that
gets kicked off when windows boots up ...its better not to disable stuff like that

P.S ... if you still have an option ...and are not extremely keen on using Windows 7 itself ...
I would recommend XP ....its the best Workstation OS Microsoft has made so far...
everything from that point has just been too over bloated

also, go into Control panel>performance options>adjust visual effects>click the "best performance" bubble.

This will make windows look pretty plain but it might help a little.

Getting more RAM wont solve the problem ...

in fact the 32 bit version of windows 7 only supports upto 4GB RAM
so if you have more the OS wont even detect it

lol ... anyways ....if you wanna use 7 itself ...go ahead ...
if you dont even have an anti=virus installed ..
you might wanna lanch the task manager and take a look at what is
eating up all the resources ...

just hit Ctrl+Shift +Esc and click on the processes tab
and look at the CPU and mem usage columns ...
