(anchoring is not the right word; think resting) I've heard that anchoring the forearm to the guitar is a good habit to develop because it gives the wrist a 'pivot point', such as here. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to this technique?
i get more precision for single notes but for chords "un-anchored" is better
I, er, don't think his forearm is anchored to any pivot point on the guitar, unless his sleeve is covering some seriously deformed arm... He's clearly moving his whole arm a lot of the time (as would only be sensible when sweeping across 6 strings...).
This is true.
do you mean his wrist on the bridge? mine and a lot of people i have seen play tens to brush against the bridge but only very lightly i feel it gives me a reference point to where i am on the guitar. but i think having any kind of pivot point would be counter productive.
