Ok I've been in contact with a local luthier who is going can cut the body for me, but I havent yet decided on what body shape I'm going to go with. Any ideas on what body I should use? I have a Spector, so I dont want another bass with the NS Shape(spectors, warwick streamers) And I have a Squier so no fender style bodies. I've been leaning to doing an Iceman body, mainly because it would stand out, but is still somewhat practical. I'm also considering doing a custom designed body that ive been working on that's kind of mix of an Iceman and a Jazz Bass, or any custom body for that matter

as for body wood, I have a big slab of purpleheart in my basement that I'm going to use, Jazz style pickups, with a neck that I got off of a washburn that I found at a yard sale. I'll be doing this whole thing over the my christmas break from college, so when I get started I'll fill you guys in

Purpleheart for a body? I hope you have strong shoulders, because I imagine that is going to be heavy.

What about a singlecut design? I've always found those very attractive. Or something symmetrical (like a Gibson SG) might be cool.

I'll let you borrow it.

This, really.

I love that shape. Its different, but it looks comfy as hell, with the huge upper horn to stop neck dive, and the big round cutout on the bottom

I wasn't thinking it....but now I am lol. I kinda do like the design though.

Edit: Just looking at the picture again. I'm not sure if it's because you're holding the wood close to the camera but that looks like it would be pretty big.

I like that first idea the best, but only if you edit those horns. Having one pointed horn and one round, bulbous horn looks a bit odd. Makes it look like each side belongs to a different bass.

well, I can make a proper template when I go home for thanksgiving break on tuesday, these are just rough concepts, I still may go with a pre made template, but I do want to make this bass unique

You could look at doing what I was going to do: essentially make a bass version of a Les Paul Longhorn Double Cutaway. You'd have to do a carved top to make it especially sexy though

Perhaps something kind of Wal-ish?

yes, a Wal/SG mix would suit this man well.
