I'm bored with my current musical library, it's all gotten stale after listening to it for ages.
Any recommendations for some new stuff?
Not that it really matters but I listen to like;
Metalcore-ish stuff (Killswitch, Parkway, etc.) more mellowed-out shit (Oceana, Underoath, Holding onto Hope, that sort of thing) Deathy stuff as well, but nothing too over-the-top brutal, I feel that when it gets to the point that a band plays open notes in some just ridiculously low tuning, it's not music anymore. I can't stand it.
Just give me some names of bands/songs/albums etc. to look up on YouTube or something.

Also, I was reading Metal Hammer today and I read a thing about Cryptopsy. I've heard some good things and some bad things, I figured I'd consult you guys before looking them up. Are they good? I hear that some of their albums are inferior to others, which ones?

Some bands I've heard about but haven't looked up, let me know if they're any good:

The Acacia Strain
The Red Chord
Cryptopsy (as mentioned above)
The Hollow Earth Theory
Architects
August Burns Red
Job for a Cowboy
Xisforeyes (I actually looked these up before, I remembered. I thought their name was cool but they were really bad...)
I Killed the Prom Queen

So, help me out!

P.S. What the **** is mathcore? Gotta be the queerest name for a genre I've ever heard of. Never heard of any of it, so I can't judge. But what the **** kind of name is mathcore...

For start, go to the hardcore forum.
It's not a bad thing, trust me. You'll just get better responses man.

Also, anyone starts posting stuff like "haha Jfac are gay", get fucked. Waste your time somewhere else.

If you don't want brutalness/spamming of open notes in low tunings, then getting any of these bands is gonna be a waste of time.

Because you've clearly listened to them intently and formed your judgement, based on a series of well grounded accusations.

Just because a band has breakdowns, doesn't mean all they do is breakdowns. TAS are probably the only band on that list with more than 1 breakdown per song.

The Unspoken King is a big no-no. Blasphemies made Flesh and None So Vile are two thumbs up.

Mathcore is for people who wish they were as chaotic as screamo

Death metal: Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Death, Belphegor, Behemoth
Black metal: Burzum, Gorgoroth, Immortal, early Satyricon, early Dimmu Borgir, Marduk, Farsot
Thrash metal: Kreator, Slayer, Warbringer, Lazarus A.D., Skeletonwitch, Tankard, Legion of the Damned

That should be enough for now.

Indeed I have, good sir. You seem to have misinterpreted my sarcasm as a malicious comment full of mean.

Sozzamozzdogs.

But just so that I can actually contribute to the thread, Cryptopsy. Good. Quite good. Boring with Lord Worm, though. Go for The Unspoken King album, it kicks some ass.

My apologies too then, my good man.

For Cryptopsy, get None So Vile and The Unspoken King. Compare the two and make up your mind which you prefer.

The Acacia Strain

Cryptopsy (as mentioned above)
The Hollow Earth Theory
Architects
August Burns Red

Xisforeyes (I actually looked these up before, I remembered. I thought their name was cool but they were really bad...)

The Acacia Strain play a breakdown orientated form of metalcore. It's a very heavy, very brutal form of metalcore. Hatred oozing from every riff. Songs: "Seaward", "Smoke Ya Later", "Whoa! Shut It Down".
Albums: 'Continent', '3750'

The Red Chord play a mixture of death metal and grindcore. Sometimes labelled deathcore, but not really that generic. 'Prey For Eyes' is a pretty good album to start with IMO.

Never heard THET.

Architects are a more technical form of metalcore. More hardcore emphasis and less "playing melodic death metal riffs with breakdowns". Get the album "Hollow Crown".

August Burns Red play a proggy/techy form of nu-metalcore. So think Parkway with more odd time signatures and you've got ABR. Messengers and Constellations are both great albums.

JFAC started as pretty much the quintessential deathcore band. Minor third riffs and breakdowns, non stop. The first EP was ok, but got dull easily. The 2nd and third albums are pure death metal, but only the second "Genesis", is any good.

Xisforeyes are pretty terrible. Avoid

I Killed The Prom Queen are one of the bands who helped make metalcore what it is. Formed just before Parkway Drive, from the same country, and IKTPQ's vocalist is the reason PWD are so big. Awesome metalcore. Get the album "Music for the recently deceased".

Mathcore is a form of hardcore and/or metalcore that focuses on spastic chords, more odd time signatures, and a nearly incoherant song structure. Dillinger Escape Plan, Psyopus and The Number 12 Looks Like You are all bands to check out.

Also, check out Misery Signals, Converge and Carpathian. You'll probably like them.

Just to answer on The hollow earth theory I heard them on this Compilation cd I got once, I remember personally enjoying them a lot so give them a good listen. As for everything else just listen to Magero he's got the right idea.
I drink your milkshake.

just listen to the black dahlia murder.
one of the best death metal bands around

EDIT: also try all shall perish, despised icon, knights of the abyss, a breath before surfacing, whitechapel, darkest hour, dead to fall, and (dare i say) bring me the horizon

@Magero

Thanks for being so helpful!

I listened to some song by Cryptopsy, expecting to hear something pretty good. But it was just lyrics that couldn't be understood even while reading the lyrics and listening to it at the same. And the lyrics were pretty wrong... Destroy Jesus or some shit? I'm not religious but I don't reckon people should be saying that shit. And something about enjoying the warmth of your anus?! What the ****.
Sorry, those who like em. I don't.

What I'm hearing of Acacia, they're pretty good.
What I heard of Seaward, the vocals were kind of annoying to me for some reason. Smoke Ya Later was really good. I liked the fact that there was "melodicity" in it. Whoa, Shut It Down was pretty good but again it was the thing with the vocals, they just seem a little half-hearted to me. Good band, from what I can hear though.

I heard "Lay the Tarp" by The Red Chord. Sounded pretty alright to me. The lyrics were great as far as I was concerned.
Vocals were a little better on this than Acacia.

I listened to The Hollow Earth Theory, their screams were pretty powerful, the clean vocals I thought needed work. If you can, listen to "Steps of Solomon" it's the one I heard and it was pretty great. They're like a heavier form of Killswitch. He sings pretty good, but it kinda doesn't suit the music they're playing. The video's pretty good for that song as well.

Architects, I thought were really good. The song I heard ("Hollow Crown") was more-than-likely a one-off thing cos it was slow and melodic, but it was frikkin mad.
Also, I found where BMTH got their new vocal style from.
I'll look up some more of their stuff and check what that sounds like, all I know is I loved that f***ing song.
#18
@ TAS's vocals being half hearted. Vincent puts more effort into his vocals than most people would into saving their children from a runaway bus.
As for Architects, Hollow Crown is a very one off song. Listen to Early Grave or Left With A Last Minute for a better idea.

Still, this should either go in the rec thread (if he wants metal recommendations) or the Hardcore forum (if he's specifically looking for metalcore).

As far as other metal genres go, TC might like Dark Tranquillity.
