I'm in the market for a new amp. The Soldano SLO 100 is pretty much my dream amplifier, but way out of my price range. Are there any amplifiers that can get me close to that sound (this sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4nZ1NIS54U) without breaking the bank? Maybe even just a decent OD pedal?

Soldano is coming out with a budget amp brand, but I'm not sure how much they're supposed to be...

The only amp that's going to really come close is a Yamaha T-100/T-50. The older ones are almost the exact circuit of an SLO (just not as high of quality parts were used).

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

There's a tiny 15 watt Soldano, Astro i think it's name was, you could find it for that price.

And i second on the Yamaha, though i've never played one it supposed to have a very similar circuit.

I've been walking past the Jet City amps at Guitar Center for a month.. Anyone played one?

Buy a Crate V33 and mod it to Soldano specs. There are a few users on here that have done this... I know Edge11 is one, and I think Customisbetter too.

That's what they're called! Keep forgetting the name!

I didn't even know they were out yet. Here's a thread over at HC about them where Jet City answers some questions:

Apparently the JCA100H has the same OD channel circuit as the SLO.

This

There are loads of tutorials available on the internet about what mods are required. Apparently the two are very fundamentally similar

The Astroverb sounds nothing like an SLO. Your closest options would be to find a used Soldano Avenger or Hot Rod 50.

Yup ^^, look for a Soldano Avenger. Single channel amp with the SLO gain circuit.

The obvious (and very sensible) answer is to go with Jet City - Soldano design built with cheaper Far East labour.

Also, keep an eye out for a Yamaha T-100, as mentioned. Basically the SLO's granddaddy, and it sounds very similar.
The voicing is different, but you might also like the Laney GH100.
