I would go with singing and playing but i voted alternate picking. YOu really have to slow done to adjust to TRUE alternate picking. Economy picking feels so natural its hard to get into strict alt picking.

I still can't do really fast, precise alternate picking. Gotta work on that.

Sweeps I have absolutely now trouble with whatsoever. Which is mad.

Fapping with no hands...figure that one out smarty pants.

Sweeping dude, alternate picking is a must(usually) maybe tremelo picking though.

Sweeps are a bitch and I can't get past simple shapes and my 4 string sweeps are gross sounding.

Sweeps are my guitar kryptonite. I can get solid results at any other technique with throught practice; but sweeps murder me.

Maybe I'm just stupid, but i don't see why someone would alternate pick when economy picking is possible.

i chose sweep picking because of the rolls - when i first found out that you were actually supposed to roll your finger in playing arpeggios i didn't believe it.

String skipping :\

yeah, that was hard. Singing/playing is something I still can't do very well, it has to be a really simple song. I can't sweep, but I don't play that kind of music so it doesn't bother me that much.

Sweep picking, no question. Legato comes pretty naturally, and alternate picking isn't bad (especially compared to economy picking), but 4+ string sweeps still give me trouble. I've gotten pretty good at some Dethklok sweeps, but that's about it.

I find Travis picking quite difficult, especially the advanced techniques.

I used to only use economy picking.. Then i started playing Paul Gilbert's stuff and started using strict alternate picking. I find that with strict alternate picking I can pick much cleaner, evenly and relaxed while playing fast.

Sweeps. I can do them, but it takes it bit to run through the shape and get them clean. Alternate picking came pretty naturally for me.

I can say I am fairly good with all three, mainly legato(I got a very strong left hand).

The technique hardest for me is multi finger tapping.

For some reason I figured out sweeping on my own after about two years without even setting out to do it. Like, one day I just realized I could. Unfortunately my alternate picking isn't nearly as fast as I'd like it to be...

But yeah, I'd trade being able to sweep for being able to write awesome riffs. I've come up with a few sweet leads but I can never write a full coherent song, only parts.

THis. true alt picking gives you this very consistent clean sound amazing control over your dynamics. Also things that are strickly alternate picked have a certain sound to them. Ive been working on paul gilberts Technical difficulties for the past two weeks and im just now to his first monster alt picking lick.

Sweeping came pretty easily to me, I just started real slow using a method I learned from a Chris Broderick video, then I was increasing speed in no time.

My real guitar kryptonite is string skipping where I have to use inside and outside picking both. I can't string skip and inside pick to save my life.

Hell yeah, people who can sweep pick FTW!
#32
I've never tried to sweep really, (Not my style) but it took me a while to get string skipping down.

The hardest thing i've tried though is Billy Gibbons style tapping.

alternate picking and sweep picking are both very difficult. I am far from mastering either of them, but i think that alternate picking is a more useful and worthwhile technique to develop, so alternate picking.

Alternate picking is up, down, up down no matter what. Economy picking is basically alternate picking combined with sweep picking.
