I think there are bigger idiots, however, sure. Let's swap Obama for another republican.

See how that goes, ungrateful bigots.

Seriously, those type of idiots are the ones we should send to scout out Atlantis. Without scuba gear. Bloody meat wrapped around their necks. Swimming aimlessly through the ocean.

It's typical of hate filled hypocritical bigots to pretend to operate within the rights of an organised religion while actually diminishing the very points the religion stands for

As a Christian i'm saying fail. The Bible, and pastors of most christian denominations call for us, as christinas to pray for our leaders to make the right decisions for our country. This is a disgrace to God, and to the Bible. Oh and im a Republican who voted for McCain.

I guess pointing out someone's brilliance by using another overused joke, works just as well.

They all seem to rather the avoid the subject when asked what exactly it is they have against him.

Besides those who are actually openly racist however.

Yeah, this is what I don't understand either. What exactly is it about Obama that non racist Christians don't like?

They're afraid that Obama is going to turn us into a socialist nation where the commies rule and Obama is dictator.

The racist ones think that, but they think the commies will all be Muslim.

And yes, it is completely hypocritical for them to use the Bible in that way.

Slightly off-topic. What d'you guys think about your country's leader being religious anyway?

I live in Holland, and I hate it. To me any religious man is someone who is not thinking rationally (at the very least about his religion). This "Balkenende" fellow, who's the most powerful man in our government, has actually openly said as a prime-minister that he both detests gay people AND thinks that no-one can truely funtion without God in his/her life.

I'm actually feeling ashamed that I live in a place where a man like this is in charge. How do Americans feel about the whole "God bless America" crap they end every speech with?

But surely Christianity and socialism should naturaly go together, didn't Jesus teach that all men are equal under God?

If he's a politician, it's impossible to know if he really is religious or not. Very few atheist politicians would actualy admit to being atheist because that loses votes from the religious sector.

Well no it doesn't work like that in Holland. We actually have 2 or 3 political parties which are Christian, the rest is not. The name of his party is (translated) Christian Democratic Appel (don't know the english word for the last one but it's something derived of the French meaning "group", or so I thought).

gotta love the hypocrisy of people using religion as a way to spread hate.

They call themselves good christians, yet they wish bad unto others, which is EXACTLY the opposite of what the bible teaches. I'm not a religious person myself for political and moral reasons, but **** me american christians make me laugh.

That's egalitarianism not socialism. Adam Smith and a great deal of the classical liberals who came up with the ideas of capitalism were radical egalitarians.

Ahh, I was talking about politicians in the UK and America.

But it's worth noting that an openly religious guy is in charge of your country and what affect that will have on the other politicians, because there is obviously a strong religious voting population. In other words, it just goes to show other politicians that it may be worth pretending to be religious in order to gain the religious vote.

There are common ideals within each, but even still, America has been brainwashed into thinking socialism is evil.

My previous post was a very good example of the common American perspective of socialism.

Socialism is the belief that workers should control their means of production.

Egalitarianism is the belief that all people are equal (Usually this means equality under the law).

They really aren't that closely related even though most socialists are egalitarians. You could quite easily be an egalitarian but not a socialist.

Modern Liberalism springs to mind as the perfect example of an egalitarian philosophy that isn't socialist.
