I just got back from Guitar Center and Sam Ash and I'm looking for a hollow-body electric guitar in the $500ish price range. I played an Ibanez Artcore, a used something or other with one pickup, a Gretsch Electromatic, and two Epiphones - a Sheraton II and a Casino. I did not like the Artcore. I thought it felt cheap and didn't play as nice as the Epiphones. My favorite was the Sheraton II but then I played the Casino and loved it. The casino was definitely the best guitar of the day.

Anyhow, I've had my eye on the Limited Edition Epiphone Riviera with 3 P90's, which is a full 100 dollars cheaper than the Casino. I figured since I liked the Casino so much and it has the P90's, I would like the Riviera too and so I had Guitar Center order me one. It should be in in 5-10 days and I'll be going to play it and try it out. I play rock and jazz and have a MIM Deluxe Player's Strat already. I play through a Valveking but am going to get a new amp sometime in the distant future.

Does anyone have any experience with these guitars? I've heard good things about them on the Internet and liked the sound of the P-90's on the Casino. How does this guitar compare to the Casino in build, sound, and overall quality. I'm pretty sure the Casino is a full hollow and the P-93 is semi hollow so it will be heavier but I'm okay with that. Also, I have read that some of the P-93's are lemons. Are there any tell-tale signs that the guitar I ordered is a lemon other than just feeling bad?

TLDR: I had Guitar Center order me an Epiphone P-93 and want to know if it is good and how it compares to the Casino in sound and build (I liked the P-90's on the Casino). I have a strat already and play through a Valveking but a new amp is in the future.

Yeah, I'm really digging the red finish, too. To me, a red 335-ish guitar is the most beautiful guitar.
