Yay, my first guitar and amp!

I know the picture isn't the best quality but hey, this is my first NGD thread anyway.

A used (but in good condition) Jackson JS1 Dinky for only $100, and a Peavey Vypyr 15 amp for $95. Man, I've been on these forums asking so many questions for months, and I finally got my guitar and amp!

perfect starter gear...good chioce

Thanks, I'm glad I took the time to research before I got my stuff, I was initially going to get an Ibanez GRX20 for $150 (a worse guitar for more money!) and a *shudders* Marshall MG10CD amp for $60. I'm glad I got this instead!

Now you have the gear all you need is to learn how to play.
Here's a tip, don't just learn song.

If you learn your music theory well you can be better than 90% of these forums in a month.

I hear everybody make such a big deal about music theory, what's so important about it?

Playing guitar without learning at least some theory is like building a house without a foundation. Your gonna be on some shaky ground. Theory will help you improvise, learn songs faster, play stuff by ear and write your own tunes. I honestly think a little theory makes everything so much easier.

Try learning a few scales and chords since your just starting out. Scales are a great way to strengthen newbie fingers as well... double bonus!

You need it for improvising and creating your own songs.

But in the beginning it's maybe a bit useless.
Why play own stuff if you have ZERO technical skills?

On the other hand you will need theory later.

Happy ngd/nad!
And yes, learn theory. I started to, but kinda forgot almost all of it anc now I really need to relearn it. It's been 3 years, I figure it's about time I learn it again.
This ends now, eat the goddamn beans!

dont worry about theory right now dude, you dont need it RIGHT AWAY to make your own songs, I made 5 songs without knowing ANYTHING about music theory, just focus on playing, and worry about HOW your playing/going to play later.
