Putting the penis on there was probably a bad move.

YEAH fight the oppression

im with TS the bass is overlooked, my band practiced a bit without our bassist and our songs sounded like stale ass

or that could have just been us sucking

ahah.

in all honesty i think keys are overlooked, they play a lot in filling out the sound where thay are used while also supplying a easily distinguishable melody line.

Yeah, then in a setting like Dream Theater, the keyboardist is more in your face than the guitarist haha

EDIT: ^

Bass :/ Can be put to such brilliant use and is shadowed by other instruments, especially in metal.

I'm a professional skin flutist. Its a very overlooked instrument

Seriously though i think keys are the most overlooked, especially in modern rock and pop

I dont think its bass, i mean you still have bass in the radio friendly bands like say.. Greenday? The living end? I dont know i dont listen to much radio. Too be honest i think its keyboard, people these days tend to think its strange if you have a band with a keyboard

Not really.

I said bass, although I was tempted to put guitar as every time a fairly old, famous song is used on modern television/movies, they ALWAYS cut out the solo.

Example, on the children in need thing two days ago, they had the cast of Hollyoaks (I think) singing Don't Stop Me Now by Queen, and I said to my girlfriend "If they don't cut out the solo, I will pay you £5". Suprise suprise, after the build up they go straight back into the chorus...

Keyboard. Even if it's just chord padding, it can add subtle harmonies and pad out the sound.

Bass in a Rock band setting.

Just for shits and giggles I'll say either the bass sax or the contra alto bass clarinet.

I'm a bassist and I'm not sure it's overlooked that much, especially live, depending on the genre.

I think the drums can be, when you often listen to them separately you appreciate how good the drummer actually is.

Penis. I've never seen an album inlay that credited any band member(or hired musician, for that matter) on penis on a track.

Chris #2 from Anti-Flag is an amazing bassist. They're one of the few punk bands where you can actually hear the bass.
