I bought my first guitar slide a week ago (after trying and failing to make my own) for about £5, and would now say I at least understand the basics. The slide doesn't produce the tone I was hoping for, and I dont know if better tone comes with technique or a different type of slide, or perhaps both.

It doesn't matter right now, as I just want to learn how to use one, but eventually im guessing I will want a better slide, so I thought id get help on choosing one now. I'm looking for a vintage tone, a real old school blues sound, like in these songs.

Robert Johnson - Crossroad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd60nI4sa9A&feature=related

Elmore James - Dust my broom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKo80b-QfK0

Its that sound im looking for with my slide. The slide I have at the moment is a light glass slide. I dont know what type of slide I would have to go for to get closer to the sound of those songs. Im guessing the guitar you use also has to be considered.

bronze would work better than glass for the artists you have there.
